Eni Follows BP Into Iraq With Zubair Deal

Iraq on Tuesday struck a deal for its Zubair oil field with Italy's Eni and is on the verge of sealing a contract for West Qurna-1 after investors caved in on Baghdad's payment demands. Eni, the sole contender for Zubair, cut an earlier offer for a service fee of $4.40 per barrel to $2/bbl, but chief executive Paolo Scaroni claimed Iraq had sweetened other terms "to the point that this contract is meeting our requirements in terms of return on investment."
