GS Caltex Unit on Schedule

South Korea's GS Caltex is on schedule to finish building its third heavy oil upgrading (HOU) unit by August 2010. Work began in October and is now at least 25% complete. The 113,000 b/d unit will convert heavy fuel oil into higher-value-added products such as jet fuel and gas oil. A desulfurization unit is being built at the same time. GS Caltex already has a 90,000 b/d residue fluid catalytic cracker and a 60,000 b/d HOU unit at its 650,000 b/d Yosu refinery.
