US President Barack Obama's proposed cap-and-trade program for greenhouse gas emissions would increase the cost of gasoline by 12¢ per gallon, a rise of around 6%, starting in 2012, according to independent consultant Point Carbon.For electricity, companies would see an approximate 6.8% increase in costs, according to the Point Carbon analysis, which assumes that 2012 carbon allowances would likely be priced at $13.70/ton.
