Profits fell year-on-year at Russian independent Russneft in the first quarter of 2009 because of tumbling oil prices. Net profits under Russian accounting standards slid to 2.118 billion rubles ($64 million) from 3.507 billion rubles a year earlier. But the total was 21% higher than in the fourth quarter of 2008 - an increase the company attributed to the ruble's sharp devaluation against the dollar.
