ConocoPhillips has secured a rig from Transocean to continue its drilling program in the Browse Basin. The US major's Australian partner, Karoon Gas, said Tuesday that it has negotiated for the Transocean Legend semisubmersible rig to resume drilling in July. The joint venture had been using the Sedco 703 to drill in permit WA-314-P before Transocean suspended the contract late last month (IOD May27,p1). The new rig will now drill the Kontiki-1 well plus an additional well, and the partners have the option to extend the term for up to two more wells. The contract will also allow them to start an appraisal program for the Poseidon gas discovery, made with the Poseidon-1 well, Karoon said.
