Japan's crude oil imports rose just 1.6% to 4.18 million barrels per day last year on declining domestic demand and lower refinery production, according to official data out Friday. Imports from Saudi Arabia, the top supplier, increased 5.2% from year-earlier levels to 1.16 million b/d, while volumes from the United Arab Emirates, the No. 2 supplier, dipped 1.2% to 997,000 b/d. Imports from Qatar rose by 6.1% and from Kuwait by 7.1%.
