18 Bid for UK Wind Acreage

Eighteen companies and consortia have bid for the right to develop up to 25 GW of offshore wind farm capacity around the UK.A total of 40 bids were submitted to the UK Crown Estate, the government body responsible for the UK continental shelf. Applications from firms based in nine countries highlighted the international interest in UK coastal waters for offshore wind farm development. The so-called Round 3 tender will offer enough acreage for developers to install roughly 25 GW of offshore wind generation capacity by 2020. The first and second rounds offered enough acreage to install 8 GW of offshore capacity.
