German intensive energy users' group VIK has said planned takeovers by RWE and Swedish state-owned Vattenfall of, respectively, Dutch utilities Essent and Nuon will undermine competition in Germany, as well as across Europe. The European Commission is expected to decide whether to approve the two pending cross-border takeovers in the coming months.
