Total is leading the charge alongside major operators Chevron and BP in commercializing substantial oil and gas reserves west of the Shetland Isles off Scotland - one of the last frontier areas in UK waters. While West of Shetland oil production is already well established, advanced plans to build new gas infrastructure, including a pipeline to the UK mainland, could see first gas output by late 2013 - enhancing the economics for other firms potentially seeking to develop gas reserves in the remote deepwater Atlantic margin.
