Italy Rides Green Power Wave

Europe's fourth-biggest electricity market, Italy, is riding a green electricity construction wave. Figures released last week by the country's energy management body, GSE, show that renewable generation capacity at the end of 2009 stood at 26,500 megawatts, up 11% year-on-year. Wind capacity alone grew by nearly 40% year-on-year, making it the No. 1 renewable technology built in the country in 2009, although attractive feed-in tariffs for solar also helped boost construc- tion in that sector as well.
