UK North Sea drilling activity stepped up dramatically in the second quarter, reversing several consecutive quarters of decline. According to new figures published by consultants Deloitte, a total of 28 wells were spudded in the UK sector of the North Sea in the three months to Jun. 30 - 14 exploration and 14 appraisal. That compared with just 12 - eight exploration and four appraisal - drilled in the first quarter of 2010, which had marked a six-year low in UK drilling activity (IOD Apr.12,p2).
