Prospects for sustaining the fragile peace in Nigeria's main oil producing area appeared to improve further Sunday, when a key dissenting faction of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend) agreed to join talks with the government. The faction, thought to be linked to Mend leader Henry Okah, has agreed to an "indefinite extension" of the ceasefire linked to the recent amnesty deal, so as to "encourage dialogue" with the government, it said in an email to reporters.
