Buncefield Firm Convicted

One of the companies connected with the December 2005 Buncefield storage depot ex- plosion in the UK, Motherwell Control Sys- tems 2003 — which is now in voluntary liq- uidation — was convicted by a jury Wednes- day for failing to ensure its employees were not exposed to a safety risk. The verdict fol- lows a crown court trial in nearby St. Albans that concluded last week (IOD Apr.14,p8). The jury has still to hand down a verdict on another company on trial for safety breaches associated with the explosion, TAV Engi- neering. This is expected imminently.
