As the shale gas sector grows by leaps and bounds in the US and Canada, it is still in its infancy across the Atlantic. The potential in Europe is certainly there: According to Cambridge Energy Research Associates (Cera), 510 trillion cubic feet of the world's estimated 16,000 Tcf of shale gas resources lie in Western Europe. But largescale developments of the type seen in North America are at least a decade away, Cera Director Leta Smith says.
