Qatar Reins in Budget Spending to Reflect Lower Revenues

Qatar will cut spending and run a small budget deficit in the 12 months starting in April amid forecasts of a significant drop in revenues as a result of lower oil prices and Opec production cuts. The small Mideast Gulf state, which is the world's biggest LNG producer, approved a general budget late last week calling for expenditure of 94.5 billion Qatari riyals ($26 billion) in 2009/10 - slightly lower than the $26.3 billion projected for 2008/09.
