Bulls Stir on Lower US Crude Stocks, But Equities Tie Them Down

The Nymex prompt crude futures contract fell 83￠ to $58.02 per barrel on Wednesday, hurt by a continued link to lower equities markets and in spite of bullish weekly US inventories data. The June Brent contract on ICE Futures closed 60￠ lower at $57.34/bbl. The market saw the first weekly decline in crude oil inventories since Feb. 27, a drop of 4.7 million barrels, which was larger than expected. The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported Wednesday that commercial crude stocks were 370.6 million bbl for the week ended May 8.
