The UK's largest electricity distribution network could be sold to raise up to ?5 billion ($7.3 billion) for owner EDF Energy, the UK arm of heavily indebted French parent EDF. EDF intends to the use the proceeds of the sale of the network, which serves London and the southeast and east of England, to cut its ?24.5 billion debt, a big chunk of which was incurred buying UK nuclear generator British Energy for more than ?12 billion in 2008.
