China Jails US Geologist for Stealing CNPC State Secrets

China has sentenced a US geologist to eight years in prison for obtaining what it calls state secrets. Xue Feng, a naturalized US citizen, had been working on behalf of consulting firm IHS in Beijing when he was detained by police in November 2007. He was then held in custody for more than two and a half years before being sentenced in the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court on Monday to eight years’ jail and a 200,000 yuan ($29,500) fine.
