Oman's biggest producer, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), is hanging its hopes on increasing production from small oil fields and minor discoveries to keep crude output at current levels until its three delayed enhanced oil recovery (EOR) schemes come on stream next decade.Royal Dutch Shell-led PDO announced in its annual briefing on Monday that black oil output from its giant onshore Block 6 averaged 556,000 barrels per day in 2008, falling for the eighth consecutive year since it peaked at 840,000 b/d in 2000. With three major EOR schemes estimated to deliver substantial volumes starting only in 2010 and beyond, PDO is clinging to smaller projects.
