Italy Steps Up Nigeria Probe

Italian investigators searched the offices of an Eni subsidiary last Friday as part of a multimillion-dollar graft probe involving construction of Nigeria's Bonny Island LNG terminal, according to local media reports. Italy's Corriere della Sera said two managers of the former Snamprogetti oilfield services unit are in the spotlight over their alleged role in the bribery scandal. Snamprogetti is now part of Eni subsidiary Saipem. The newspaper said investigators have until the end of July to ascertain whether Snamprogetti itself will be investigated.
