Relations between Beijing and Canberra remain strong, Australian Trade Minister Simon Crean said Monday, despite China's arrest of Rio Tinto executive Stern Hu, an Australian national, earlier this month. Speaking at a media briefing in Singapore, where he is due to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting, Crean said, "I don't believe - particularly if this case is handled properly - it will have any impact on [China-Australia] economic relations. ... Both countries need each other, the interdependency between our two economies is now huge on both the trade flows as well as investment flows."
