E.On Ruhrgas CEO Calls for Flexible Gas Contracts

E.On Ruhrgas chief Klaus Schafer, in his first keynote speech since his appointment two weeks ago, told the ONS Trade Fair in Stavanger that the European “continent is experiencing a huge oversupply of gas and a price collapse on spot markets.” Economic downturn may be a reason, he added: “But much more significant are the far-reaching shifts on global gas markets.” Gas oversupply and lower demand are putting pressure on prices and, consequently, flexibilities in gas procurement have to be used and contracts adapted to the current market situation, Schafer added in a press statement.
