BHP Billiton Oil Chief Says US Drilling Ban Hurting Oil Production

BHP Billiton said the deepwater drilling moratorium in the US Gulf of Mexico will keep the company's global production flat over the next fiscal year for the first time in four years. Michael Yeager, chief executive of BHP Billiton Petroleum, told delegates at the Bar- clays energy conference in New York last week that the Obama administration's deep- water drilling moratorium will cap the com- pany's output at 159 million barrels of oil equivalent in fiscal year 2011. BHP had ex- pected volumes closer to 166 million boe prior to the ban.
