France Leads Way in Pursuit of European Shale Gas

Hot in North America, shale gas plays could potentially heat up on the other side of the Atlantic too, with the French government quietly paving the way for possible development in southeastern France. The energy ministry invited several companies, domestic and international, to apply for permits for shale gas prospects earlier this summer in what could become France's first unconventional gas initiative.
