Papua New Guinea (PNG) has approved a long-stalled agreement with Australia-based InterOil to build an LNG project fed by the company's Elk and Antelope gas finds. The cabinet approved the agreement on Wednesday, the day after partners in the rival Exxon Mobil-led PNG LNG project announced a conditional final investment decision (IOD Dec.9,p3). The InterOil deal offers the same regulatory and fiscal benefits as that offered to PNG LNG, according to a statement from PNG Prime Minister Michael Somare's office.
