EIB Lends to National Grid

The European Investment Bank (EIB) said Wednesday that it has agreed to lend ￡360 million ($594 million) to UK-based National Grid for the upgrade and extension of its four gas distribution networks in the UK, which serve 11 million customers. The EIB-funded investment program covers the three years to Mar. 31, 2011 and mostly concerns the replacement of cast iron pipes with new polyethylene pipes, which are more resistant and reliable.
