China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) said Monday that the Akpo field in Nigeria had commenced production ahead of schedule (IOD Jan.28,p7).CNOOC has a 45% stake in the field, partnering operator Total of France (24%), Brazil's Petrobras (11%) and Nigeria National Petroleum Corp. (20%). Akpo is located in deepwater Block OML130 about 200 km offshore Nigeria, in water depths of up to 1,400 meters. Its proved and probable reserves are estimated to be around 620 millions bbl of condensate.
