Italian power giant Enel and its larger French counterpart EDF said Monday that they have formed a 50-50 joint venture for the development of new nuclear power plants in Italy. Rome-based "Sviluppo Nucleare Italia" will develop feasibility studies for the construction of at least four advanced third generation European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) units, as outlined in the accord signed by both power giants on Feb. 24 at the Franco- Italian summit in Rome.
