About 1.6 million barrels per day of Nigerian oil production has been shut in due to violence in the Niger Delta, Oil Minister Rilwanu Lukman said. The country is now pumping less than 2 million b/d, significantly less than its installed capacity of over 3 million b/d. "This shut-in amount is more than half of our production capacity of 3.2 million b/d and this is all due to the activities of the militants in the Niger Delta," Reuters quoted Lukman as saying after a cabinet meeting.
