Ukrainian state gas firm Naftogaz ensured a smooth start to the EU-Ukraine summit Friday by announcing it had paid its bill for November supplies to Russia's Gazprom three days before the deadline. Gazprom later confirmed receipt of the funds. The size of the bill was not disclosed but acting Finance Minister Igor Umansky had earlier put the figure at $770 million.
