Australia's Origin Energy has struck gas with the Rockhopper-1 exploration well in the Bass Strait off Victoria in southeastern Australia. The firm said Tuesday that the well was drilled to a depth of 3,522 meters and encountered hydrocarbon shows throughout several zones in the main reservoir sequence. The well is in permit T/18P, about 38 km west of the Yolla gas platform and 10 km north of the Trefoil gas field.
