Iran has lashed out at recent attempts by US lawmakers to tighten sanctions by targeting its gasoline imports, which now meet around one-third of Iranian gasoline demand. The speaker of the Iranian majlis, or parliament, Ali Larijani, has dismissed a bill submitted last week by a group of American senators that would penalize companies supplying gasoline to Iran as an act of "stupidity" that is another example of US "double standards" towards Tehran (IOD Apr.30,p2).
