US major Chevron will soon launch a large-scale steam injection pilot at its onshore Neutral Zone concession, which it renewed recently. If the trial is successful, Chevron plans to start full field development by 2017, a top official said Tuesday. Guy Hollingsworth, Chevron's president for exploration and production Europe, Eurasia and Mideast, said the venture will begin injecting steam into the carbonate reservoirs in the Wafra field in July. "This is the first time that anyone has tried a large-scale steam flood project in carbonate [reservoirs]. It has huge potential for the whole Middle East," he said on the sidelines of an Abu Dhabi conference.
