Recession, Gas Feud Hit India Bid Round

Foreign players' enthusiasm for India's latest upstream licensing round appears to have been dampened by the global financial crisis as well as a very public squabble over gas supplies between the hugely wealthy Ambani brothers, upstream regulator VK Sibal says (IOD Sep.3,p1). A total of 70 blocks are on offer in the Nelp-8 bid round, India's biggest yet, and the country had been hoping to attract at least $3 billion in investment.
