Alaska Files Lawsuit Against Washington’s Offshore Drilling Ban

Governor Sean Parnell and Attorney General Dan Sullivan of Alaska have filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the US Interior Department’s decision to extend an offshore drilling moratorium to federal waters off the state’s northern coast. Exploration and future production in federal portions of the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas are viewed as critical to extending the life of the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline system and could also provide supplies for a possible lower 48 natural gas pipeline (IOD Apr.7,p1).
