State Uzbekneftegas and South African refiner Sasol are reportedly considering building a coal-to-liquids (CTL) plant in Uzbekistan. They will spend the rest of the year studying plans for a project based on coal from the Angrensky Basin in the Tashkent region, the Prime-Tass news agency quoted an Uzbek official as saying Friday. The project, with preliminary estimated costs of $700 million, would produce around 500,000 tons/yr (10,000 b/d) of synthetic diesel within five years. The Angrensky Basin harbors roughly 2.5 billion tons of coal and produces about 3 million tons/yr.
