The preparations of two monomeric uranyl thiolate compounds are presented, [Me4N][UO2(NO3)(2)(C5H4NS)] (4) and [C16H25N2S2Si2][UO2(NO3)(2)(C8H12NSSi)] (5) Crystal data: 4, C9H16N4O8SU, orthorhombic, P2(1)2(1)2(1), a=8.553(2), b=13.921(2), c=14.895(2) Angstrom, V=1773.7(9) Angstrom(3), Z=4, 1356 reflections, R=0.0463. 5, C24H37N5O8S3Si3U, monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a=11.925(2), b=27.429(5), c=11.462(2) Angstrom, beta=97.33(3)degrees, V=3718(2) Angstrom(3), Z=4, 1055 reflections, R=0.0518. These are possible precursors to previously reported uranyl-peroxo and -oxo thiolate clusters. Attempts at oxo transfer from the clusters to substrates are also discussed.
