The reaction of 1,3-C_6H_4(CH_2PCy _2)_2 with anhydrous nickel(II) chloride in dry THF produces the non-cyclometallated dinuclear complex trans-[Ni_2Cl _4{cis-(Cy_2PCH_2)_2C_6H _4}_2]. The compound was characterised by ~~1H, ~(31)P and ~(13)C NMR spectroscopy and its solid state structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. An improved synthetic procedure of the aromatic pincer ligand 1,3-C_6H_4(CH_2PCy _2)_2 is reported.
