Measuring safety and quality in health care: Classic methods paper

With increasing complexity of health care and growing demands for patient safety, monitoring quality of care is warranted. To realise improvements in health care, health professionals need to be clear about how they deliver interventions, what they are doing and how to enhance their care. Health professionals are constantly bombarded with messages about what constitutes evidence-based practice through diverse sources such as systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines. They may also have difficulties in monitoring their practice, partly due to lack of insight in how to measure safety and quality of care.
