As known, an important indicator of the durability of tyres is the water resistance of the tread, which depends on many factors and conditions: the mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and molecular structure of the surface layer of the rubber; the construction of the tyre and its elements; the air pressure in the tyre and the specific pressure at the point of contact with the road; the radial, longitudinal, lateral, and angular stiffness of the tyre and its elements; the method of fitting the tyre to the vehicle, the temperature at the point of contact of the tyre with the road, etc. It is evident that study of the mechanism of wear of the tyre with account taken of these factors and conditions continues to be an urgent task.
