Questions of the chemical modification of carbamideformaldehyde resins (CFRs) have recently been the focus of great attention. In particular, this has been reflected in studies of application importance, since, with all their positive characteristics and comparatively low cost, CFRs release free formaldehyde during processing and service (ref.1), while materials based on them are noted for a low water resistance and softening point (refs. 1 and 2). Different organic compounds (refs. 3-8) and oligomers (9-11), including RFRs (ref. 10), have previously been used as the modifiers for CFRs.
