Polyamides (PAs) are products of polycondensation of diamines with dicarboxylic acids or polymerisation of lactams, and are among the best known and most used polymers. These materials, which are widely used in many branches of the economy, are mainly employed in the manufacture of fibres and components of machines and equipment (Refs. 1-6). However, the use of PAs for making constructional elements subject to impact is limited, because they have inadequate impact strength (Ref. 7). Improvement of the impact strength of constructional materials basedon polyamides might therefore be of considerable practical importance. One way of improving selected mechanical properties of PAs is their chemical modification as a result of introducing other mers into the chains.
