The use of synthetic butadiene rubber degradation products in polydicyclopentadiene synthesis

Polydicyclopentadiene (poly-DCPD) is a rigid, inflexible thermosetting plastic with high impact strength. Poly-DCPD products can be obtained by reaction injection moulding (RIM). The commercial production of DCPD mouldings, based on RIM technology using catalysts based on tungsten and molybdenum compounds, was developed by BFGoodrich Co. These products have been produced by BFGoodrich and Hercules under the trade name Telene~R and Metton~R respectively. Today, Metton~R is produced by Metton America, Inc., and by Teijin-Metton Co. [1, 2].
