Earlier analysis of imported tyres [1] showed the predominant use in the breaker of car and small lorry tyres of high-strength (HS) metal cord with filaments of 0.25-0.30 mm diameter and of simple design (for example, 1 x 3) and special design (for example, 2 + 2), characterised by improved rubber mix flow between the wires. In the breaker (besides the final layers) and carcass of lorry tyres, structures were used that ensured a high tensile load and fatigue life, and, in the final breaker layers, type HE cord with increased elongation at break was employed. In the carcass of car and small lorry tyres, use was chiefly made of polyester cord of 144 tex x 1 x 2 and 111 tex x 1 x 2 strands, and occasionally viscose cord of 140 tex x 1 x 2 and 184 tex x 1 x 2 strands. In the screening layers of the breaker of such tyres, single-strand or double-strand cord of nylon 66 was used. Analysis of cord from imported 195/60R15 and 205/55R16 tyres and Russian 205/55R16 tyres of different manufacturers confirmed these trends (Tables 1 and 2).
