Due to the resistance of rubber articles based on butyl rubber to the action of oxygen, ozone, solar radiation, and microorganisms, long years are required for their breakdown, which leads to serious environmental pollution. Considering also that the cost of butyl rubber is higher than that of normal diene rubbers, its partial replacement in rubber compounds with reclaim gives a considerable cost benefit. The sources of butyl rubber reclaim are waste tube diaphragms from tyre works. Several methods for regenerating butyl rubber from such diaphragms are known.
