In communication 3 [1 ], the obvious advantage of tyre tread rubbers containing silicon dioxide in terms of wet grip capacity in the temperature range 0-45°C was shown. The greatest average grip in this temperature range was shown by a tread in which the ratio between carbon blackand silicon dioxide was 50:30, with a total content of these fillers of 80 parts per 100 parts rubber component of the tread rubber compound. In the present communication, the results are given of an investigation of the grip capacity of radial-car-tyre tread rubbers with different ratios of carbon black and silicon dioxide on an icy surface having a temperature ranging from -5 to -25°C. The composition of the rubbers was described in communication 1 [2]. Investigations were conducted on LAT 100 testing equipment (VMI) in a range of loads on the specimens of 5-150 N, and the speed of rolling on ice was 0.1-2.0 km/h. The 5-1 ON load range corresponds to a very low load (VLL); the 15-25 N range corresponds to a low load (LL); the 30-70 N range corresponds to a medium load (ML); the 75-150 N range corresponds to a high load (HL).
