Anaerobic adhesives, first developed in the USA, have been further developed in a number of countries and have been used successfully for the past 5 years in many areas of engineering for sealing, securing, stoppering, and bonding. Their distinguishing features are the single-component nature of their application and their ability to be stored for a long time (over a year) in an air atmosphere and to cure rapidly in the narrow gap between metal surfaces as oxygen is depleted, i.e. under anaerobic conditions. At the same time, anaerobic adhesives are essentially two-component, as the second component is the substrate metal.
