Research Project Results in Development of Foam Replacement for Wax Pattern Material

摘要

Although wax in its various forms and additions has been used for investment casting patterns for thousands of years, a new foam material has been developed which researchers say could replace wax for everyday production use. The new foam pattern material, FOPAT, is the result of recent work funded in part by a two-year Department of Energy Inventions and Innovation (DOE I&I) program grant as well as a six-month Phase I and a two-year Phase II Department of Defense Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant from the Air Force Materials Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
