Orchid Oregon was founded in 1969 by Peter L. Day and his two sons, Richard and Peter, under the name PED Manufacturing, Ltd. The first manufacturing facility was a small studio adjacent to Peter L. Day's home, and for the first two years was a one-customer foundry producing stainless steel fork castings for Gerber Legendary blades. In 1972, the land on which the Company is presently located was purchased and a 30,000 square foot plant was built.
