Casting quality has a strong influence on the performance of investment castings. Gating system design for investment castings often incorporates niters in the metal delivery system. Thus, it is imperative that investment casters work diligently to prevent these inclusions from ending up in the casting. Filters are a tool to minimize inclusions that can find their way to the final castings. The additional cost of a ceramic filter can often be justified by resulting reductions in casting scrap and improvements in casting machinability.
